Sex Trafficking Targeted for Next Ad 2 Campaign

Collaboration with Junior League of Tampa to Generate Awareness for Human Trafficking

In its 36th consecutive annual public service effort for local nonprofits, Ad 2 Tampa Bay has selected The Junior League of Tampa, on behalf of the Sex Trafficking Collaborative and the Community Campaign Against Human Trafficking, as its 2013-14 pro bono client. Florida is one of the most notorious states for human trafficking activity, with Tampa Bay serving as a central hub. Child sex trafficking makes up a large part of this underground industry.

“After hearing about the prevalence of this issue in our community, the Ad 2 Tampa Bay membership was touched by the stories the Junior League presented and we voted almost unanimously to help with an awareness campaign against sex trafficking,” said Taryn Cashmere, president of Ad 2 Tampa Bay. “We are compelled to take action and make Tampa Bay a safer place for women and children.”

The Junior League of Tampa, whose mission involves promoting the welfare of children and developing the potential of women, began backing this initiative after learning that domestic minor sex trafficking had become a multibillion dollar industry throughout the country, with Tampa Bay being one of the hotspots.

Over the course of the year, Ad 2 Tampa Bay will work with The Junior League of Tampa on creating and implementing an integrated campaign, including TV, radio, outdoor and print ad placements, targeted at increasing awareness and reducing trafficking activity.

“Through this campaign, we want to share the stories of the women and children who’ve experienced these horrors and break the cycle in our region,” said Mary Ellen Collins, public affairs chair of The Junior League of Tampa.

Ad 2 Tampa Bay and The Junior League of Tampa plan to lead a community awareness campaign on behalf of the Sex Trafficking Collaborative and the Community Campaign Against Human Trafficking to coincide with Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January 2014.

About Public Service

For more than 40 years, local Ad 2 chapters have produced comprehensive public service advertising and marketing campaigns for non-profit organizations in their communities. Each year, Ad 2 chapters from across the nation compete in the Ad 2 Public Service Advertising Competition. Participating clubs submit a written report about their campaign, followed by an oral presentation at Admerica, AAF’s National Conference. A select panel of judges evaluates the campaigns and selects the best among that year’s work. The winning Ad 2 chapter receives an $800 award from the G.D. Crain Foundation and the opportunity to present their campaign to all attendees at the AAF National Conference. The campaign must support a local, regional or national public service project in the public interest or designed for community betterment.
